THE MISTS RETURN

on the sandy shore of slateport beach, the audience awaits the announcement of the victorious team. spectators, participants and pokemon alike are painted and decorated with their house's colors. a kaleidoscope of blues, reds, and yellows wave across the crowd as the host teases the score card outside of a wax-sealed envelope.[break][break]

a small breath. a careful scan to make sure. and the jubilant exclamation: "and the winning house is... THE HYACINTH HUNTAILS!"[break][break]

blue confetti falls upon the gathered crowd as the scores are revealed:[break]

as the festival ends, the mists return. they spread across the beach, wreathing the coast with their strange hues. within the dense mist, something seems to call. to beckon. in particular, the top earners of each house, FERNANDO SILPH of the hyacinth huntails, kyle lopez of the canary clamperls, and lenora gray of the garnet gorebysses, sense the strangest connection. a psychic tether that whispers for them to come in.[break][break]

curiously, the newly appointed gym leader, Balder Schwartz, finds himself called in as well...[break][break]

entering the mist is an odd experience. their brief injury of entrance to the billowing fog is swiftly covered by more thick fog, causing the city of slateport to disappear behind them. upon walking forth, they realize they're at the immediate shoreline, water pulsing eerily against their feet.[break][break]

hovering before them in shelled forms are the island deities: tapu fini, tapu lele, tapu koko, and tapu bulu. they are ready to confer blessings, should you accept them. you can refuse their aid- if you wish.[break][break]

Lenora stares at the strange Pokemon before her, lips parted, hands folded together in front of her rubs. It is familiar in the way a childhood memory is; familiar but shrouded in fog and mist, rendering it unable to be placed. Perhaps she's seen it in a book before. It's the only reasonable explanation because Lenora knows, looking at it, she's never seen such a Pokemon before.

She steps forward, water lapping at her heels, and extends a hand towards Tapu Lele.

Lenora accepts.

he doesn't know why he was here. the pokemon before him wasn't something that he could recognize, even in pictures -- and he has full confidence in his knowledge of pokemon. it unnerved him, though it didn't exactly scared him. part of him feels like these pokemon weren't malignant at all.

he doesn't want power. blessings from legendary pokemon were convenient, but he knows responsibility comes with it. the burden of it was not to be trifled with by the trainer. he could opt to accept it and simply not use it, but practicality says that it would be a waste. it would simply be better for the tapu koko to find itself another person to align himself with.

[attr="class","spiral"] it's not the first time he's felt this sensation but something about it is different. there's something distinct about the retching feeling of something wretching its influence on his mind.

against his better judgement, fernando enters the mist. he notices the other participants join in as well and he attributes it to their mutual situation. whatever the circumstance, it stems from the aqua fest. he's unware of their shared connection but the context clues lay themselves bare.

until all is left hidden, gone from view, and thrown into the cascade of a never ending horizon. his vision is obscured by the obvious hindrance of the fog and fernando tenses briefly, keeping his wits about him, and cautious to a razor sharp edge. anxious fingers rest on a pokeball on his hips and he prepares for the worst. the change in scenery is alarming but the pokemon are not.

the legends of alola are spoken about but fernando's familiarity with them barely scratch the surface. he doesn't recognize any of them from their appearance alone. still, he accepts the open offer. another resource put forth is not one to be refused. his eyes narrow and his hope kindles an unexpected acceleration of his life's work.

TRULY, A SHOCKING SUMMER

as the tapu deities bestow their blessings upon their avatars, their respective mists begin to fade. kyle's rejection of tapu koko is noted- and although the electric-guardian shows signs of offense, it nevertheless accepts the elite four member's decision with a scornful gaze.[break][break][break]

the muscular tapu bulu beckons for balder to come forth toward the waters. as he does, the mists begin to brighten, as if it were masking a train's blaring light. suddenly, the deities part to the side and cast their colorful fog aside like curtains. the crowd behind them gasps at the sight. hovering in the air before balder, its majestic mane capturing the light of the sun in grandiose banners, is the emissary of the sun: solgaleo.[break][break][break]

the lion locks its starry-eyed gaze with balder. it's a gaze so intense, so radiant... and while others may fight to shield their eyes, balder seems curiously immune to solgaleo's all encompassing light.[break][break][break]

without language, the lion communicates with balder psychically. the sunne pokemon is pleased with him. pleased with how he's bringing the warmth and values of alola to hoenn. pleased with his spirit. his heart. and for these reasons, solgaleo would like to offer his allegiance to balder, for the legendary understands the region is under duress...[break][break][break]

but what tensions could be seizing the region now? the aggressive pokemon? the threat of another ultra beast attack? it's puzzling, and yet... the lion awaits balder's answer.[break][break]

As the mist rose upon the beach of slateport, 3 individuals walked forward, as if they had been requested upon the end of this festival. Fernando, Kyle, and someone that Balder didn't know. Most likely the winners of the three houses. Yet... why was Balder here? Except wear an armor during the assaults on the Warfront, he had done nothing that would be noticeable. Yet, there was someone, or rather something, requesting his presence inside the mist, alongside the 3 winners.[Break][break]

Thus, the Totem Gym Leader followed the 3 winners, wondering why he was beckoned as well. As they got further into the mist, the alolan man could hear the sound of the waves get closer. He quickly removed his shoes and socks, then proceeded to roll his pants up before continuing to move forward. As he caught up to the others, the man noticed floating figures. It was only when he got closer that he recognized those markings, those forms: The island guardians from his homeland.[break][break]

Immediately upon seeing them, Balder dropped his left knee on the ground, the fist from his right arm slammed into the ground. A sign of respect to the protectors of his homeland. As the Protector of Ula Ula, Tapu Bulu, raised a hoof towards Balder to have him wait, the young man observed the others. One by one, they seemed to have been selected by the Tapus to fight for them. Except for Kyle, it seemed the others had accepted the blessings. Thus... It was Balder's turn.[break][break]

The young man turned his head towards Tapu Bulu, expecting the taurus to offer him the same thing as the others. Yet... this moment never came to be. Instead, the bull gestured to have him stand up and join them. Odd... Yet, he wouldn't falter. Not now. As Balder moved forward, the Tapus gathered before him before standing on the sides of an invisible corridor. At the end of a corridor, covered by the fog, a bright light could be seen. Suddenly, the Tapus lifted the fog, as if unveiling a treasure, revealing the creature that was emitting the light.[break][break]

A man of blinding white, releasing a massive torrent of energy. And yet, while some could be harmed or blinded by this light... Balder seemed unfazed by it. As if he was meant to meet this lion. And seeing him... reminded him of an old tale he had heard as a kid. Of a Lion, said to be the emissary of the sun, who protected the world in its time of needs. And this... Seemed to be the case.[break][break]

"So this world still ain't trouble free..." This somewhat saddened the man. With the dismantling of Team Rocket and the peace this region had lived recently, it was hard to see how there could be more trouble brewing. Yet, this event was certainly a marker to more events that would plunge Hoenn in chaos. At least, that seemed to be what Solgaleo, as per his name, was thinking. Still, the creature noted how he was pleased with the way Balder had acted, trying to spread the values of Alola and his warmth.[break][break]

The Gym Leader couldn't help but smile from hearing, or is it feeling rather, what Solgaleo meant. While it had not been his goal to spread the values of Alola, he couldn't very well deny his self and his desire to help everyone. This most likely lead to the spreading of the values. And the creation of the gym surely helped as well. Balder raised his head, staring straight into the lion's eyes, as he extended his right hand to the legendary pokemon. "The spreading of the Alolan values has only just begun. And surely we can help a lot more people in this world. Together. Let's protect this land and assist everyone as best as we can, Leo."[break][break]
